Recruitment
I am actively looking for motivated students to join my group.
Prospective PhD students
I have PhD openings available for Fall 2026 admission. PhD students are funded through a combination of fellowships, RAship, and TAship. UCR has basic requirements for admission, including TOEFL>=80 or IELTS>=7 for international students. For interested applicants, please apply to the PhD in Computer Science program at UCR (application website), and mention your interests in working with me in your application.
Why UCR? UCR is highly ranked at research-focused rankings – on csrankings.org, UCR is currently ranked at #28 in the United States. The CSE department has excellent opportunities for collaboration, with several recently joined AI/ML faculty members and diverse faculty on a variety of other research areas such as security, computer systems and networks, algorithms, etc. Also, UCR is located near Los Angeles in Southern California, with easy access to restaurants, entertainment, airports, and natural attractions in the Greater Los Angeles area.
Short-term research project
I am also looking for both current UCR students and external students, to collaborate with me on short-term research projects. This is not for those who are applying for Fall 2026 PhD.
Requirements: 1) Strong interest and motivation in AI research, aligned with your future academic and career goals; 2) Basic knowledge and experience in machine learning (equivalent to undergraduate-level machine learning coursework); 3) Strong coding ability. 4) Availability (a minimum commitment of 15~20 hours per week during the school year for at least 3~6 months).
Typically, funding is not provided to students who are not current PhD students. However, current undergraduates at UCR may apply to funded undergraduate research programs for the summer. Currently, I do not have paid RA positions for F-1 OPT students.
Interested students may contact me by email with: 1) CV and transcript; 2) A brief discussion on research interests; 3) Motivation of doing research, as well as how you would like it to help with your academic and career goals; 4) Preference on the type of the project (e.g., leading a research project, joining a research project as a helper, etc.); 5) Availability.
Prospective M.S. Students
Please consider applying via UCR’s official website directly.
Postdoc
I currently do not have funding for postdoctoral scholars.
